Artists in Residence at Heltwate School, North Bretton

Kombisketchtour Artists Max and Jane went Wild with Art and Nature at Heltwate School last week. The team were invited by the school to be artists in residence and to create artworks with the whole school.  The artists worked with over 160 students to explore nature through art.

Over the five action packed days students were transformed into Nature Warriors - Gatherers and Protectors of Nature, who foraged in the local woods, created a temporary meadow, brought a tree back to life; created huge paintings outdoors in the sunshine and 60 students took part in building a piece of land art from rescued tree branches brought down by storm Doris.

A visit from Nene Park Trust's 'Moments with Trees' Project Officer - Hannah Keeley - added to the sensory arts activities with pupils invited to sniff trees, count the age and be part of the 'land art'.

A visual diary of the week was captured by nominated student photographers who recorded all the many highlights.  Here is a glance of the what went on.

We met the most inspirational children and teachers; the week at Heltwate ended on a high with the Kombi artists leading a nature assembly.  All students took part and with the aid of music and dance they recounted the weeks adventures, sharing with the whole school their part in it.  It was truly joyous.

What an amazing week, we loved it. Thank you Heltwate School. Looking forward to next year!
