Maxine Greer's worlds have evolved out of research gathered through drawing field margins, hedgerows and following the seasons on tour. A particular fascination is the role of field margins and waste lands, studying the flora within and around these ruderal spaces.
Taking a closer look at the micro and the macro within nature; they hint at museum collections, pinning down the subject matter ready for study. Greer uses stitch to build these small landscapes, layering and twisting threads to create a moment experienced through drawing nature.
Her large scale photographs allow for a new enquiry - the tiny worlds blown up create an abstract landscape with alternative flora reminiscent of our natural world.
For a closer look at these embroidered worlds pop along to DRAW at the Yarrow Gallery, Oundle. Show closes 24th March!
