Maxine is co-founder of Kombisketchtour - A mobile art studio promoting observational drawing through practise. Working out in the countryside, making regular pitstops, drawing and recording the changes in nature, following its ebb and flow.
Mini worlds have evolved out of these drawn observations in particular the role of field margins and waste lands, studying the flora within and around these ruderal spaces. Taking a closer look at the micro and the macro within nature; they hint at museum collections, pinning down the subject matter ready for others to study and investigate. The relationship with stitch feels fundamental, layering up threads to create a moment discovered through drawing on the tour.
Award winner of the People’s Choice Award for ‘Flock’, for her installation of over 200 paper sparrows, as part of the Peterborough City Open 2012. Maxine has co-curated exhibitions such as ‘Telling Tales’ which bought together a group of artists from across the UK in a collaborative exhibition which culminated in a show in East Grinstead, West Sussex. DRAW sees the return of the East Midland artists who came to the Yarrow in 2012 for SHIFT.
